Hindcast of the alkalinity addition field trial in Halifax Harbour, Canada (Fall 2023)

The dataset provides the results of the Halifax Harbour model simulating the alkalinity addition experiment that was carried out in the harbour in the Fall 2023. The model couples circulation with inorganic carbon chemistry and includes tracers to simulate the fate of the alkalinity addition (particulate and dissolved phases) and its effects on inorganic carbon parameters and air-sea CO2 fluxes in the Halifax Harbour and the inner Scotian Shelf. Results of the 6-month simulation (October 1, 2023 to April 1, 2024) were used to determine the alkalinity addition response of the local carbonate system, to quantify the time varying net air-sea CO2 uptake, and to calculate the flux of residual alkalinity (unequilibrated with the atmosphere) leaving the model domain.
