British Geological Survey (BGS) Geophysical Survey 1974/4: Northern North Sea (06/08/1974 to 23/10/1974)

This marine geophysical survey was carried out by British Geological Survey (BGS) and engineers from Hunting Surveys Ltd, and IOS Barry. The survey took place in August to October 1974 around Shetland, Orkney and off north west Scotland on board the MV Briarthorn. The purpose was to collect data for UK regional mapping. Sea floor data were collected using Transit Sonar. Subsurface data were gathered using a suite of seismic instruments (airgun, pinger and sparker), plus a gravity meter and a magnetometer. These data were recorded as paper records and are archived by BGS. Technical details of the survey are contained in BGS report WB/MG/74/54.本海洋地球物理勘探项目由英国地质调查局（British Geological Survey, BGS）、Hunting Surveys Ltd的工程师以及IOS Barry团队共同执行。本次勘探于1974年8月至10月在设得兰群岛、奥克尼群岛周边及苏格兰西北近海海域开展，作业载体为机动船布赖亚索恩号（MV Briarthorn）。本次勘探的核心目标是为英国区域地质填图工作采集相关数据。其中，海底地形数据采用Transit Sonar系统采集；海底地下地层数据则通过一套地震勘探仪器组合（气枪震源、脉冲声呐（pinger）、电火花震源）、重力仪以及磁力仪采集获取。上述所有数据均以纸质记录格式留存，目前由英国地质调查局（BGS）归档保管。本次勘探的详细技术参数与实施细节收录于英国地质调查局报告WB/MG/74/54中。
