Storm throw exposure

The data set shows the exposure of the rail infrastructure to storm throw within the federal states of NRW and Thuringia (Bundeswide calculation in planning). This product of storm throw exposure is the result of the research project “Deduction of the tree stock along the German rail network” of the German Centre for Rail Transport Research at the Federal Railway Office as part of the work of the BMDV expert network in the field of climate change impacts and adaptation (BMDV-Expert Network.de). The factual information and hazard classes are provided exclusively for the area of rail infrastructure. The trees along the rail infrastition are shown at each 50 m on both sides of the track. The tree population has been determined at the level of the individual trees on the basis of digital elevation models and aerial images. The exposure of the rail network to storm throw is represented by the attribute “exp_m” in four different classes of 1-4. “exp_m” is based on a modeled tree height, which adds an average growth surcharge for the time 1.11.2020 to the measured tree height when the height information is taken up. The exposure classes are divided as follows: 1: Distance > current/future tree height with 2 m uncertainty range 2: Distance > current/future tree height without 2 m uncertainty range 3: Distance < current/future tree height and outside the 6 m clearance zone 4: Distance < current/future tree height and within 6 m freekeeping zone.
