THE CONCEPT OF NEOLOGISM, ITS ESSENCE AND PLACE IN LINGUISTICS

The article analyzes the essence of the concept of neologism, its place in linguistics and the mechanisms of its formation. A neologism is interpreted as a new word or a word that has acquired a new meaning as a result of changes in society, economy, technology and culture. Three main ways of nominating new concepts are examined in detail: semantic expansion of existing lexemes, word-formation based on the internal resources of the language, and direct borrowing. The modern usage and historical development of neologisms are studied on the basis of synchronic and diachronic approaches.
