This study investigated the pathogenic role of gut microbiota in the skeletal muscle of patients with sarcopenia (MS), which is a common complication in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) and is characterized by progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength. We aimed to clarify the association between gut microbiota and skeletal muscle symptoms in patients with MS and the underlying mechanism of action. We believe that our study makes a significant contribution to the literature because our results demonstrate a connection between the gut microbiota of patients with MS and skeletal muscle functionality. These results show that gut microbiota disruption may contribute to the development of skeletal muscle disorders in patients with MHD. Our study lays the foundation for understanding the pathogenesis and potential treatment methods for sarcopenia in patients undergoing MHD.
