DNA metabolic barcodes are rapidly becoming a cost-effective method for large-scale biodiversity assessment and pest monitoring. The current research uses metabolic barcodes to evaluate insect diversity in potato fields in Qujing City, Yunnan Province, China from 2021 to 2022. Five Malaise trap were set up in the potato field to sample insects, generating a total of 245 samples and 726 sequencing samples. Use two cloud based data storage and analysis platforms, namely the Life Barcode Data System (BOLD) and the Multi Barcode Research and Visualization Environment (mBRAVE), to encode these batch samples with meta barcodes, and plan and analyze the sequences. These platforms assign sequences to 1688 barcode index numbers (BINs), a species proxy. Due to providing basic data on insect biodiversity in potato fields in China for the first time, this study is a valuable resource for a wide range of research areas such as pest management and beneficial insect monitoring in potato fields.
