This dataset provides information related to the energy requirements (MJ of primary energy) and CO2e emissions of growing industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) in two heavy metal contaminated sites and using contaminated biomass for bioenergy production under four supply chain scenarios. These data are available in Excel format titled “Dataset Canopaes”. The Excel file contains 12 worksheets showing specific data of the analysis carried out and titled: - Field Inputs – this worksheet contains the data related to the inputs required for growing industrial hemp for phytoremediation purposes in two experimental sites (S1 and S2). The amount of fertilizers (kg ha-1), seeds (kg ha-1), diesel fuel (kg ha-1), machine power (kW) and working times (h) for each activity carried out at field level and per Hemp Supply Chain (HSC) scenario was reported. - Field Outputs – contains the industrial hemp cultivation output for each experimental site and per HSC scenario. This worksheet contains the production yields (kg ha-1) of each product harvested and the related dry matter content (DM). - S1 and S2 – these worksheets show the cumulative energy demands, which are expressed as MJ of primary energy, and the GHG emissions, expressed as g CO2e, both per kg of industrial hemp dry matter harvested and per cultivation site. - SPP – shows the primary energy requirements and the related CO2e emissions of the activities related to the seed processing plant. - ADP – this worksheet is associated with the data obtained from the valorization of residual industrial hemp straw and fresh industrial hemp biomass as feedstocks. Moreover, the worksheet contains data related to the energy expenditure of the pre-treatment activities, the specific methane produced and the amount of heat and electricity generated. - BFPP - includes the data from the Biomass-Fired Power Plant considering the combustion of residual industrial hemp straw, dried whole industrial hemp and dewatered digestates from the ADP (either from residual industrial hemp straw or industrial hemp silage). - HSC1, HSC2, HSC3 and HSC4 – these worksheets contain the data related to each step of the hemp supply chain scenarios, where the cumulative energy demand (CED) and the Climate Change (CC) impacts are reported. Moreover, the amount of bioenergy produced and the avoided emissions (g CO2e) are reported per functional unit. - EF – contains the energy equivalents and emission factors [3-10] used to assess the energy and environmental burdens of this study. In addition, the worksheet includes the decimal rated power of each activity carried out at the field level. This dataset is relevant to diverse users such as researchers, stakeholders and policymakers to develop further insight related to the sustainability of producing bioenergy from contaminated industrial hemp biomass.
