Gut metagenomic sequencing was used to assess the modulatory effect of Tanshinone IIA (TAN) in gut microbiota. TAN corrected the reduced abundance of Bacteroidetes, increased ratio of Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes in diabetic rats. At species level, TAN reversed the diabetes-related significant changes in the abundance of Bacteroides Dorei, Lachnoclostridium sp. YL32 and Clostridiodes difficile.
