The main datasets contain elemental concentrations and light response traits of 105 bryophyte samples belonging to 16 moss and 10 liverwort species, sampled from spring-fed ecosystems in NE Spain. For further details, refer to the research article High-dimensional elementomes outperform CNP models in explaining bryophyte photosynthetic traits.Dataset Descriptions1) Elemental DataThe dataset in the file photo-bryo_elemental_data_250119.csv comprises concentrations of 21 elements and isotopic ratios of C and N. Variables of the type c.mgg.c indicate the element followed by the units of concentration (e.g., c.mgg.c represents milligrams of C per gram of dry bryophyte tissue, and mn.ugg.c represents micrograms of Mn per gram of dry bryophyte tissue). Other variables include:sample: Sample number.font: Identification code of the spring.lat: Latitude of the spring.lon: Longitude of the spring.species: Bryophyte species.date: Date when the sample was collected.d15Ncorr: Delta 15N isotopic ratio.dCcorr: Delta 13C isotopic ratio.2) Photosynthetic Traits DataThe dataset in the file photo-bryo_photo_traits_250119.R comprises values of four photosynthetic parameters:sample: Sample number.Amax: Light-saturated rate of net photosynthesis (nmol CO₂ g⁻¹ s⁻¹); positive values indicate bryophyte CO₂ uptake.Aqe: Apparent quantum yield (nmol CO₂ g⁻¹ (µmol photons m⁻²)⁻¹).LCP: Light compensation point (µmol photons m⁻² s⁻¹).Robs: Observed rate of dark respiration (nmol CO₂ g⁻¹ s⁻¹); positive values indicate CO₂ efflux.3) Original CO₂ Exchange DataThe dataset in the file photo-bryo_LICOR_data_complete_250119.csv contains the original data from CO₂ exchange measurements of bryophytes. The variable 'A_nmol_g_s' indicates net photosynthesis at the indicated internal PAR (PARi) on a dry weight basis, in nmol CO₂ g⁻¹ s⁻¹. The variable 'dw.g.corr' is the dry weight of the bryophyte. Other variables are standard outputs from the LI-COR 6400.Analysis Scripts1) Main Analysis ScriptThe R script photo-bryo_main_analysis_250228.R describes analyses aimed at evaluating the relationship between photosynthetic traits and elementomes in bryophytes.2) Light Response Curve Analysis ScriptThe R script photo-bryo_LRC_analysis_250212.R describes the modelling of light response curves to obtain photosynthetic light response traits.Automated Model Selection Code and OutputsCode for automated model selection for each light response trait is provided in the files:Amax_server_calculations.RAqe_server_calculations.RLCP_server_calculations.RRdark_server_calculations.RSince these processes are computationally intensive, output R objects are also provided. For each trait, two RData objects are included:A sequential model selection object, where models were selected based on the number of elements (e.g., best models with one elemental variable, two elemental variables, etc., up to 21; e.g., mod_Amax_seq_aic2.RData).A comprehensive model selection object, including the best models (AIC mod_Amax_all_aic10.RData).
