The purpose of an admission register was to record basic details about children admitted to the school, and about their parents or guardians. The registers were also used to record the progress of the children through various classes and the date of their leaving the school. These volumes contain information pertaining to each pupil including: date of admission, pupil's name, age and religious denomination, and date of leaving previous school. The following details are recorded about the child's parents or guardians: name, residence and occupation. The pupil's date of admission to each subsequent grade, date of leaving the school, and, where known, the name of any school to which they may have transferred, or any occupation entered into on leaving school, are also recorded.Admission registers in paper format ceased in 1999 when the department moved to recording enrolment details in electronic format.Pupils are listed in order of admission. In the volume currently held, girls and boys are listed on opposite pages until 1949, after which they begin to be listed in alternating double-page openings. Entries are numbered sequentially from the beginning of the volume, girls and boys being in independent sequences, with the numbering in each sequence being continuous from year to year until the beginning of 1961, and thereafter beginning anew at the start of each school year.
