Municipal dataset and reproducible Python analysis of women's formal recognition in goat production in Zacatecas, Mexico
收藏资源简介:
This dataset and reproducible Python analysis package support the study “Gendered rural visibility and territorial variation in officially recognized smallholder goat producers in dryland Mexico.” The dataset covers the 58 municipalities of Zacatecas, Mexico. It integrates municipal goat production statistics from the 2022 Agricultural Census with demographic and settlement data from the 2020 Population and Housing Census locality dataset (ITER2020), INEGI geographic information, and CONEVAL estimates of municipal female poverty for 2020. Variables include goat production units and inventories, units officially reported under women’s responsibility and their associated inventories, population and rurality indicators, settlement structure, population-adjusted goat production indicators, relative goat specialization, and female poverty. A hierarchical, rule-based classification assigns municipalities to six territorial types (T0–T5). All demographic denominators used to calculate indicators come from ITER2020. The female poverty percentage is retained as published by CONEVAL and is not recalculated using ITER population totals. Ratios with zero denominators are treated as non-applicable, represented by empty cells in the Excel workbook and NA in the exported analytical tables. Observed zeros with positive denominators are retained. Atolinga, which has no census-registered goat production units, remains in the dataset as a separate territorial category. The deposit includes:• The integrated Excel workbook, variable dictionary, and methodological documentation.• A single Python script that recalculates derived indicators, descriptive statistics, exploratory Spearman correlations, recognition categories, and the territorial typology.• Municipal boundary files and code to reproduce the rurality and territorial typology maps.• Reference outputs, a concordance report, software dependencies, and execution instructions. The Python script calculates indicators from the original municipal input columns without relying on cached Excel formula results. The package reproduces the analysis from the integrated municipal database; it does not reconstruct the original municipal aggregates from locality-level census records. Women’s formal recognition refers to the official designation of women as responsible for goat production units. It should not be interpreted as a direct measure of women’s labor participation, individual livestock ownership, decision-making authority, or empowerment. The analyses are descriptive and exploratory and do not establish causal relationships. The integrated workbook is version 1.1, harmonized to ITER2020. Original data sources are documented in the workbook and accompanying README.
