In this study we make use of high within-site replication to study the first two years of decomposition of two contrasting tree species (deciduous and coniferous) in a common garden approach. This approach allows investigating the relation between wood traits, decomposer fungal communities and decay rates while minimizing the effects of abiotic environmental variation.
