Klebsiella pneumoniae is a Gram-negative, non-motile, encapsulated, lactose fermenting facultative anaerobic rod shaped bacterium. K. pneumoniae are bacterial pathogens that can cause a variety of severe infections in humans. Is also a well-known causal agent of mastitis in cattle and bacteraemia in calves, cervicitis and metritis in mares, pneumonia and septicemia in foals, pneumonia, urinary tract infection and septicemia in dogs.
