For the past fifteen years, cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been the leading cause of death worldwide. Atherosclerosis, the buildup of fats and cholesterol in arterial walls as plaques, is often associated with CVD. Previous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of implementing a time restricted feeding regimen to attenuate diet-induced obesity in mice by restoring circadian cycling and robust host-microbe cycling. We set out to test whether genetically induced atherosclerotic conditions could be alleviated by a time restricted feeding diet regimen. Genetic atherosclerotic mouse models Apoe-/- and Ldlr-/- were all placed on a high fat, high cholesterol atherogenic diet. Both Apoe-/- and Ldlr-/- mice were either fed on an ad libitum or time restricted feeding regimen (n=6 for each condition).
