Experimental results: Bloom in Bottle (BIB) experiments: culture studies of the effect of Si and N stress on diatoms of the Santa Barbara Channel (SBDOM project, SBC LTER)

<p>Culture studies of diatoms that dominate spring blooms in the Santa Barbara Channel were used to examine the effects of N and Si stress on the magnitude of production and the chemical composition of DOM. Species cultured were: <em>Skeletonema costatum</em> (CCMP 1332), <em>Chaetoceros socialis</em> (CCMP 172), <em>Thalassiosira weissflogii</em> (CCMP 1051), and <em>Odontella aurita</em> (CCMP 595).</p>本研究以圣巴巴拉海峡（Santa Barbara Channel）春季水华优势硅藻为研究对象开展培养实验，考察氮（N）、硅（Si）胁迫对其生物生产力规模及溶解有机物质（Dissolved Organic Matter）化学组成的影响。本次实验所用培养物种包括：中肋骨条藻（*Skeletonema costatum*, CCMP 1332）、社交角毛藻（*Chaetoceros socialis*, CCMP 172）、威氏海链藻（*Thalassiosira weissflogii*, CCMP 1051）与耳齿藻（*Odontella aurita*, CCMP 595）。
