Changes in dynamic viscosity of sea water with depth in the Pacific Ocean at Stations DM9-613W and DM9-618W@en

To check on the assumption that metabolic products of planktonic organisms can affect the coefficient of dynamic viscosity of seawater, viscosity was measured in water samples taken from depths of 0 to 1843 m, west of the Hawaiian Islands. Obtained results showed that plankton has no effect on viscosity of water in regions of low productivity and that viscosity can be determined with high degree of accuracy from the appropriate tables.为验证浮游生物代谢产物可影响海水动力粘度系数这一假设，研究人员对夏威夷群岛以西海域0至1843米深度采集的水样进行了粘度测定。结果显示：在低生产力海域，浮游生物对水体粘度无显著影响，且可通过查阅合适的参考表格以极高精度确定水体粘度。
