Dataset of Financial Literacy of Chinese Citizens (2021) by Ziqiang Xin from Renmin University of China

Dataset of Financial Literacy of Chinese Citizens (2021) was established by Ziqiang Xin (辛自强) from Renmin University of China, which was funded by the Major Project of the National Social Science Fund of China (No. 17ZDA325). The sample consisted of a total of 10,058 respondents (51.9% females; Mean of age = 39.09, range = 18–89 years), which was a nationally representative sample recruited with a stratified and quota sampling procedure from 31 provinces (or municipalities/autonomous regions) in mainland China from January to March 2021. The dataset is stored by SPSS software (in .sav format file), covering six types of survey tools or variables: (A) Participants' demographic information and financial behavior variables (16 items of demographic information, 26 items related to personal financial management, investment, planning, expenditure, donation and other financial behavior); (B) Financial knowledge test (22 items); (C) Financial capacity test (15 items); (D) Financial values test, including financial management values test (12 items), financial ethics test (9 items), and wealth values test (9 items); (E) Economic and social attitude scales (3 items of the materialism scale, 10 items of the financial wellbeing scale, 4 items of the economic man belief scale, 6 items of the individualism and collectivism scale, and 2 items of the community identity scale); (F) Single-item surveys of economic and social attitudes (a total of 9 items, including trust, happiness, economic satisfaction, debt pressure, income class, income equity, wealth attribution, wealth redistribution willingness, and market control belief).The dataset can be accessed in the condition of cooperative research with its developer. Applicants must be in-service teachers or researchers of universities or research institutions.
