Bamboo is an important sustainable material for construction industry due to its combined advantages ofeasy availability, fast renewability, and excellent mechanical performance. However, its low biological durability and poor treatability limit its use for structural and outdoor building material. In this study highly durable bamboo materials were prepared through a facile modification process called bulk fur-furylation for the first time. The modified bamboo was found to be highly mold resistant and exhibited strong resistance to decay fungi and termites with a furfuryl alcohol (FA) weight percentage gain (WPG)as low as 10%.
