Xanthomonas cassavae causes bacterial necrosis on cassava plants. Genomic data will enable to compare this non-vascular pathogen with the vascular pathogen X. axonopodis pv. manihotis, both infecting the same host, at the genomic level, and will aid in developing diagnostic tools for detection and tracing of the pathogen. Strain CFBP 4642 (NCPPB 101, ICMP 204, LMG 673) was isolated from Manihot esculenta in Malawi in 1951.
