Living Conditions and Hospitalizations of Children in Copenhagen

Vagn Christensen's survey consisted of a comparable analysis of hospitalizations of children in two well-defined residential quarters in Copenhagen. The material, which was collected in the period 1948-1952, contains information about all incidences of hospitalization of children under the age of 7, living in Emdrup and in the Housing Commission's Area (Boligkommissionens Område). V20 in the data material indicates the streets which are covered by the Housing Commission's Area. # #Information is included about the living conditions, in particular the housing conditions, of these children. # #This machine readable data material comprises only approx. two thirds of the original material as some of the original forms have been lost in the course of time (from 1956 to 1977). # #On the basis of the remaining material Tavs Folmer Andersen has carried out a follow-up study concerning various aspects of the living conditions of these children in the years following their hospitalization. The children, who were born between 1938 and 1952, were traced via the Central Population Register (CPR-registret) and the Historical Archives of Copenhagen (Københavns Kommunes Historiske Arkiv).
