Effects of fatty acids EPA and oleic acid on responses of Atlantic salmon adipocytes to polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid

EPA might have a special and unique role in the immune system of Atlantic salmon, especially when exposed to viral infection. Adipose tissue is an endocrine organ that secretes various adipokines involved in metabolic regulation and in inflammatory responses. This study investigates the role of EPA during a simulated viral infection in salmon adipocytes. In vitro cultured adipocytes isolated from Atlantic salmon were enriched with either oleic acid (OA) or EPA through the growth media, stimulated with polyIC and sampled at 24h or 96h.
