The impact of psychoeducation programme on mothers’ ability to communicate about menstruation with their pre-menarche daughters.

The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a psychoeducational programme in addressing the concerns of mothers with pre-menarche daughters in addition to improving their communication skills related to menstruation.The study recruited mothers of pre-menarche girls in urban Bengaluru using a qualitative research design and purposive sampling methods. The participants were categorised into six groups based on education and language proficiency. They participated in focus group discussions before and after a psychoeducation programme. The programme assigned a two-week homework task focused on having conversations about menstruation with daughters. Following the programme, the groups reassembled for further discussions. The data was transcribed and analysed using Atlas ti. Postintervention communication focused on menstrual health education, with mothers using simple language to normalise menstruation and creating a nurturing environment for daughters to seek help. Mothers expressed satisfaction with the knowledge but faced challenges due to religious and societal constraints.本研究旨在评估一项心理教育项目在缓解月经初潮前女童的母亲所面临的各类困扰，并提升其与女儿沟通月经相关话题的能力方面的有效性。本研究采用质性研究设计与目的抽样法，在印度班加罗尔市区招募了月经初潮前女童的母亲作为研究对象。参与者根据受教育程度与语言能力被划分为六组，在该心理教育项目实施前后均参与了焦点小组讨论。该项目布置了为期两周的家庭作业，要求母亲们与女儿就月经话题展开交流。项目结束后，各组再次聚集开展后续讨论。研究数据经转录后采用Atlas.ti进行分析。干预后的沟通内容聚焦于月经健康宣教，母亲们通过使用通俗易懂的语言使月经话题正常化，并为女儿营造了可寻求帮助的支持性环境。母亲们对所掌握的相关知识表示满意，但仍受宗教与社会观念的制约，面临诸多实践难题。
