M. purvisi has been assigned to the data-deficient species management stream under the SoS framework, and consequently it is necessary clarify its distribution, status, biology, ecology and vulnerability to threats, so that management actions can be more precisely targeted. Accordingly, the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) has established a project to determine the distribution, abundance and population structure of the species.The turtle trapping program described in this report is a contribution to the overall OEH project.

M. purvisi 已被划归至SoS框架下的数据缺乏物种管理分支，因此亟需明确其分布范围、种群现状、生物学特征、生态习性以及受威胁脆弱性，以使管理行动能够更为精准地靶向施策。据此，新南威尔士州环境与遗产办公室（Office of Environment and Heritage，OEH）已启动相关项目，以确定该物种的分布、种群丰度及种群结构。本报告中记述的海龟诱捕项目，是对OEH整体项目的一项贡献。
