The study on the post-election survey following the 2021 Bundestag elections was conducted by infratest dimap on behalf of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. During the survey period 21.09.2021 to 19.11.2021, eligible voters aged 18 and over were surveyed in telephone interviews (CATI) on the following topics: political interest, satisfaction with democracy, positioning on various political issues, party competence, voting decision and current voting intention, voter participation and time of voting decision. Questions were also asked about communication behavior during the election campaign, campaign contacts, reasons for not voting and motives for switching voters. The respondents were selected using a stratified random sample from an ADM selection frame including landline and mobile phone numbers (dual-frame sample).<br>Feelings towards different parties; participation in the 2021 Bundestag election; voting mode; election day of postal voters or official voters; recall Bundestag election: Voting behavior; satisfaction with the outcome of the Bundestag election overall; satisfaction with the performance of the chosen party; according to recall Bundestag election; importance of various factors for the voting decision (e.g. substantive positions of the named party, top candidate of the named party, proximity to the named party overall, coalitions that the party would probably enter into for a government, ability to solve future problems, ability to govern well as well as one´s own gut feeling, etc.); time of the voting decision for the named party in the 2021 Bundestag election; decision-making process voters resp. Non-voters; decision-making process earlier in federal elections; reasons for not voting; alternative party to the federal election; indecision regarding the voting decision in the last six weeks before the federal election; position statements on the topics of taxes and duties, immigration and combating climate change; party competencies in the areas of environmental and climate policy, refugee and asylum policy, social policy, housing and rent policy, prospects for the region, securing prosperity and problem solving; party identification; strength of party identification; campaign contact: with election advertising of various parties (posters, advertisements in newspapers or magazines, social media, direct mail, e-mail, street, in person); evaluation of the election campaign (differences between the parties have become clear, parties have made a great effort to make contact, very interesting, changed my voting decision during the election campaign, none of the parties really convinced me during the election campaign); parties voted for in the last five years; probability of re-election of the party voted for in the last few years at the next election; reasons for Union change (e.g. The CDU (By: CSU) no longer offers a home for Christians, so I am no longer voting for them, the CDU (By: CSU) no longer stands up for the problems of the little people, etc.); party preference (Sunday question); alternative party to vote for (Sunday question); frequency of internet use; activities of internet use; internet use for political information or to disseminate political content; social media networks used for political information or to disseminate political content; partnership status; frequency of communication with partner about parties, elections and politics in the last weeks before the Bundestag election; frequency of differences of opinion in these conversations; voting decision of life partner in the Bundestag election; relationship to the person with whom politics is most frequently discussed (relative, neighbor, colleague, friend, other person); frequency of communication with this person about parties, elections and politics in the last weeks before the Bundestag election; frequency of differences of opinion in these conversations; voting decision of this person in the Bundestag election; political interest; satisfaction with democracy; degree of polarization in society: Agreement with various statements (Other people can be trusted on the whole, in today´s society people are irreconcilable towards each other, recently I have been avoiding conversations on political topics because then there are only arguments, I no longer meet certain people because of their political views, in the past it was possible to discuss political topics more openly).
Demography: sex; age; age in age groups; household size; number of people in the household under 18; employment situation; unemployment for more than 6 months; job security; denomination or religious community; frequency of attending religious services; highest level of education; personal migration background or parents´ migration background; assessment of household income; financial consequences of a major purchase (no problem or major challenge).
Additionally coded were: Interview number; interview date; region west/east; region: federal states; district: municipality code district level; political municipality size (number of inhabitants); weighting factors.
