Annotated record of the detailed examination of Mn deposits from DSDP Site 118, Leg 12 (Cores 118-17, 118-19, 118-20)

The principle objective at Site 118 was to sample a formation in the Bay of Biscay which had been tentatively ascribed to Lower Cretaceous or older sediments. However it was not clear that this corresponding seismic layer was not in fact part of an extremely irregular igneous basement structure, at least at the western end of the bay.118号站位（Site 118）的主要科学目标为采集比斯开湾（Bay of Biscay）内某地层的样品，该地层曾被初步划归为下白垩统（Lower Cretaceous）或更古老的沉积地层。但目前尚无法明确，该对应地震反射层（seismic layer）实际上是否属于极不规则的火成岩基底（igneous basement）构造，至少在该海湾的西端区域是如此。
