IDP camp monitoring in Bria, Central African Republic (2021-07-27)

The CEMS Risk and Recovery Standard (STD) has been activated by DG ECHO to get updated information about the Internally Displaced Person (IDP) site named PK-3 and located in the proximity of Bria, Central African Republic (CAR). Since 2013, the CAR has been affected by political, security and humanitarian crisis linked to armed conflicts, conflicts between communities, or tensions between farmers and breeders in some areas. This situation of instability in the country has dramatically worsened during election campaign (between mid-December 2020 and mid-January 2021), leading thousands of people to leave their places.The goal of the activation is to provide support to better understand the current situation at the PK-3 IDP Camp, to analyse its status and composition, highlighting also changes with respect to 2018.Proposed solution and resultsThe P19-Population displacement location products are generated through photointerpretation of VHR satellite images and provide information about the camp type, its composition (e.g. tents, shelters, facilities, etc…), estimated population and density. The products delivered depicts the situation as of 2018 and 2021.The P13- Ready to print maps and map books for field campaigns products include detail maps of each of the P19 products generated, with a focus on the mapped camp.Figure 1.
