The impact of therapy-led hand clinics for the treatment of acute hand injuryPurpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of therapy-led conservative management of acute hand injury in adults when compared to medical-led, care as usual. Materials and Methods: A cluster non-randomised trial was conducted across five hospital locations: four intervention and one control sites. Adults (18 years +) with acute hand injuries, such as hand fracture, mallet, and volar plate injuries, were included. Standardised outcome tools measuring function (QuickDASH), health-related quality of life (EQ-5D-5L), pain (VRS), and occupational value and competence (Occupational Self-Assessment- Short Form (OSA-SF)) were completed at baseline, 8-weeks, and 6-months. Results: A total of 133 participants were recruited (intervention, n=67; control, n=66). Baseline demographics of participants were similar between groups. Results from statistical analysis are reported on. Conclusion: Findings regarding the effectiveness of therapy-led hand therapy clinics in comparison to care as usual pathway are reported on.
