Correspondence relating to administration and policy matters, 1949, 1953-68, comprises submissions and reports for ministerial approval, minutes for cabinet and reports on legislative issues. There is also correspondence relating to the Boards of Senior School Studies and Secondary Studies (mostly 1965-68). General correspondence, 1963-68 covers appointments with various organizations and individuals and cultural organizations under the direction of the Department of Education; letters from educational and social organizations seeking patronage; requests for reports, forewords to publications etc. There is also overseas correspondence, 1962-68 and University of Sydney correspondence, 1958, 1960-68 and personal correspondence, 1958, 1960-68 and papers concerning the Committee on the Future of Tertiary Education (Martin Committee) 1961-65. The early papers 1917-29 are a miscellaneous collection dealing with various issues brought up by teachers, including duties, supervision of classes, equal pay for women, There are also some copies of minutes of evidence and papers relating to the Crown Employees (Teachers) Conciliation Committee concerning an application in 1927. The files located at 19/8240-45 which cover the period 1953-71 include reports and information sheets; the correspondence and subjects covered include: teacher training; correspondence with the Sydney Teachers' College; correspondence with other departments; correspondence relating to administrative and policy matters; correspondence relating to and submissions from the New South Wales Teachers' Federation; material relating to "Outward Bound", national fitness and correspondence with the Director of Physical Education; H.S. Wyndham's official tours; material relating to special and handicapped children; correspondence re educational television broadcasts. While the files were sent by J. Buggie as the papers of H.S. Wyndham most include papers from the administration of D. Verco.
