Understanding_of_multiple_Iron_acquisition_systems_in_Pectobacterium_species

We have solved two high-resolution crystal structures (and done a whole lot of supportive biochemical analysis) on a particularly interesting iron-acquisition system in Pectobacterium. It involves a protease in the periplasm that imports and processes ferredoxin from the host. The crystal structures reveal the mechanism of ferrodoxin binding and proteolysis. The microbe is a pathogen of plants, and the one we are working with decomposes noxious weeds locally, and has been mooted as a biological control agent
