Police stops

Law enforcement agencies in North Carolina are required to report traffic law enforcement statistics to the Department of Public Safety within 60 days of the close of each month. This dataset includes daily summaries of each agency’s traffic stops, including the reason for the stop, the outcome of the stop, and demographic characteristics of any persons involved. As a result, the data is comprehensive. Daily data is available to the public 60 days after the close of the prior month. Original data is reported by police departments, which vary by geography (for example cities, county sheriffs, universities, state patrols, etc). As a result, county-level summaries may introduce some minor discrepancies.
