This statistic displays the annual usage of retail clinics, measured in visits per 1,000 members, among Americans insured through Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) from 2011 to 2015, by insurance type. A retail clinic is defined as an acute outpatient clinic in a retail setting (pharmacies, retail stores, supermarkets, etc.). According to the study, in 2014 individuals that were individually insured visited retail clinics at a rate of 17.6 per 1,000 members, compared to those with employer-based insurance that visited retail clinics at a rate of 21.7 per 1,000 members.
