Strain TCU-HL1 is can use camphor or borneol as the sole carbon source. One hundred years ago Taiwan was the main place of natural camphor production in the world. Natural camphor exported from this green island accounted for more than 70% of the world-wide natural camphor production. This is probably one of the reasons why so many camphor or borneol-degrading strains were isolated by our group on this camphor tree-covered island.
