A spatial dataset on the Selective Licensing Schemes introduced in England, 2006-2021

This dataset describes Selective Licensing (SL) schemes that have been introduced in England from 2006 to 2021. SL schemes were introduced in 2006 as a tool that allowed Local Authorities discretionary powers to regulate privately rented homes through licensing. We collected primary data by contacting each of the 309 Local Authorities in England (as of 2021) through Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, to obtain information about any SL schemes for private landlords that have been introduced within their constituency. We identified 128 schemes introduced within 54 Local Authorities. We digitised intervention areas and attached scheme attributes. We provide both spatial (vector) and tabular data (.csv) of the affected areas at Lower Super Output Area (LSOA) level.
