Under regulation 53 of the Forestry Act 1916, records were to be kept by every person taking delivery of or dealing with native timber. This standard format showed the following: Date of taking delivery, Where taken delivery of, By whom delivered, Docket no, Brand, Species and Description, Quantity and Dimensions, Contents, Where obtained, Lease Timber (Contents, Name of Lessee), Private Property Timber (Contents, Name of Owner, Crown Royalty Rate), Remarks.Entries in the volume were completed on a monthly basis, each month signed off by the Shire Engineer. Duplicates have been removed, which, according to the act, were forwarded to the local forest officer. The entries are in a bound volume in chronological order. Custody History These files were in the custody of Dumaresq Shire Council until 1995 when they were transferred to the Regional Archives.
