With the rapid growth of social economy and population density and the continuous expansion of cities and towns in the Pearl River Delta, the environment for the survival of vegetation in some areas is constantly shrinking. Therefore, accurate estimation of vegetation coverage and dynamic monitoring of the distribution pattern and temporal and spatial changes of vegetation in the Pearl River Delta are crucial to the ecological security of the Pearl River Delta. In this study, Landsat data sets were invoked by Google Earth Engine to synthesize images of the Pearl River Delta in 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2020 respectively, and NDVI based pixel dichotomy was used to estimate the vegetation coverage of the Pearl River Delta in the five periods respectively. The variation coefficient was used to analyze the fluctuation of vegetation coverage change in the five periods of the Pearl River Delta. Slope trend analysis was used to explore the temporal and spatial characteristics of vegetation coverage change, and Hurst index was used to predict the future development trend of vegetation coverage in the study area. It provides basic data support for the study of the distribution pattern and spatio-temporal changes of vegetation coverage in the Pearl River Delta.
