Since the early 1970s the European Commission´s Standard & Special Eurobarometer are regularly monitoring the public opinion in the European Union member countries. Principal investigators are the Directorate-General Communication and on occasion other departments of the European Commission or the European Parliament. Over time, candidate and accession countries were included in the Standard Eurobarometer Series. Selected questions or modules may not have been surveyed in each sample. Please consult the basic questionnaire for more information on country filter instructions or other questionnaire routing filters. In this study the following modules are included: 1. Future of Europe, 2. E-Communications in the household and telecom single market.<br>Topics: 1. Future of Europe: expectations regarding the life of future generations in the EU; main assets and main challenges of the EU; preferred issues to be emphasized by society in order to face global challenges; preference for more decision-making at EU level in each of the following areas: economic policy and taxation, health and social security, fight against unemployment, immigration issues, environmental protection; approval of the following issues: creation of an EU army, direct election of the president of the European Commission by EU citizens, designation of a justice minister for the EU; attitude towards a ´two speed Europe´; assessment of the EU’s influence in 2020 compared to: the USA, Japan, China, India, Brazil, and Russia. 2. E-communications in the household and telecom single market: number of mobile phones in the household with the following kinds of contract: billed contract, pre-paid card, one of the aforementioned modes of access plus a subscription giving access to the internet; availability of internet access for downloading audio or video content and sending or receiving e-mails in personal subscription; use of a mobile phone subscription to make cheaper calls over the internet; approval of the following statements: respondent limits national calls by mobile phone to reduce charges, respondent limits calls to other EU countries by mobile phone to reduce charges, respondent limits calls to other EU countries from fixed phone to reduce charges, respondent limits calls to mobile or fixed phones of other network operators to reduce charges, respondent limits the use of mobile internet access reduce charges; ways of receiving television; ways of internet access at home; main considered factors when subscribing to an internet connection; usage of a PC or Wi-Fi connected device at home to make phone calls over the internet; maximum download speed of current contract; approval of the following statements: download and upload speed match terms of contract, internet connection never breaks down, provider can easily be contacted in case of internet connection problems, helpful information from helpline staff or support site; awareness of data consumption limits under terms of contract for the household internet connection; experienced obligation to make an extra payment for additional data consumption in the past; difficulties due to insufficient speed when accessing online content or applications using the household internet connection or the internet via mobile phone; experienced blocking of content or applications using the household internet connection or the internet via mobile phone; occasions when the blocking was experienced; subscription to a bundle consisting of: TV channels, fixed line telephone, mobile phone, internet access; approval of selected statements: services and prices of current bundle can easily be compared to other offers, regular information on bundled offers, current provider gives updated information about changes to tariffs and packages; changes and time of change of service provider for: TV, fixed line phone, mobile phone, internet, bundles; easiness of changing service or bundle provider; considerations to change bundle provider; frequency of traveling to other countries: within the EU, outside the EU; use of mobile phone in another EU country: no use, switch off data roaming capabilities, activate special data roaming plan offered by network operator, use SIM card of the country of visit, connect to the internet using public or private Wi-Fi access; frequency of using the following services when being in another EU country compared to being in the own country: make or receive voice calls, send or receive text messages, send and receive e-mails excluding Wi-Fi access, use social media excluding Wi-Fi access, use messaging services like Viber or Skype excluding Wi-Fi access; phone number called in an assumed event of emergency in the own country: 112, national numbers, other numbers; knowledge of the EU wide emergency number; use and reasons for use of public payphone in the own country; time of last use of telephone directory enquiry service. Demography: marital status; age at end of education; sex; age; occupation; professional position; type of community; household composition and household size; own a mobile phone and fixed (landline) phone; possession of durable goods (entertainment electronics, Internet connection, possession of a car, a flat/a house have finished paying for or still paying for); financial difficulties during the last year; internet use (at home, at work, at school); self-reported belonging to the working class, the middle class or the upper class of society; life satisfaction; frequency of discussions about political matters on national, European, and local level; own voice counts in the own country and in the EU. Additionally coded was: respondent ID; country; nationality; date of interview; time of the beginning of the interview; duration of the interview; number of persons present during the interview; respondent cooperation; size of locality; region; language of the interview; nation group; weighting factor.
