Images from Archaeological Evaluation Trenching Work at Whinfield Solar Farm, County Durham, October to December 2022

This collection comprises images from archaeological evaluation trenching which was required prior to the construction of a solar farm at Whinfield Farm, County Durham. This work was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd October to December 2022. The excavation of 193 2m by 30m trenches targeted anomalies identified in an earlier phase of archaeological excavation and apparent blank areas to provide a 4 percent sample of the proposed development area. The trial trenching evaluation uncovered no significant archaeological features or deposits. Five undated features were uncovered that comprised two pits, two gullies and a field boundary however as there was no dating evidence they are considered to be of low significance.
