Woodlot Dataset 3

The lab was conducted by myself and 3 peers: Hassan, Enrique and Brad. The objective of woodlot data set 3 portion of the lab, was to observe the trees at close proximity of eachother and look at the conditions of the trees. It is hypothesized that the same species of trees, will exhibit similar conditions in terms of distance at breast height and appearance due to the close proximity and similar environmental conditions the trees are all exposed to. For woodlot dataset 3,  Hassan and I walked to the edge of the woodlot, attached the transect measuring tape to a branch to keep it firm, and walked straight with the tape towards the centre of the woodlot up to 30m. We then layed the measuring tape on the floor and walked back to the edge from where we started. Every instance we encountered a tree while walking from the edge to the centre, we measured and recorded the distance of the tree and the distance of the subsequent tree. The distances were subtracted to get the distance from tree 1 to tree 2 in meters. We also measured and recorded diameter at breast height by wrapping the tape around the tree horizontally and measuring it in centimeters. Lastly, we observed the condition of the tree visually and ranked it from 0-3, where 0 was considered dead and decaying and 3 was healthy with an abundant canopy of leaves. 10 pairs of tree were used for this experiment. After all recordings were made, the transect measuring tape was retreived.
