VPRS 15043 Working Diary, Land Office Hamilton [1862 - 1863]; Postage Account, Land Office Hamilton [1864 - 1871]; Personal Record, Mr H C Malcolm [1888 - 1896]

This volume has been used for a number of purposes. It was printed as a cash book but on the inside front cover Agenda Book has been handwritten. In the years 1862-3 the volume was used by the Hamilton Land Office as record of all daily activities. For example, enquires received, land opened up for selection and land sales attended/conducted. It is not an agenda book but rather a working dairy. For the years 1864-71 the register has been used as a record of the Land Office's postage account. giving details of the date, to whom sent and the cost of postage.In between 1888 and 1896 the volume has been used by a Mr HC Malcolm as his own personal record. Mr Malcolm was the Land Officer at Hamilton at this time. It seems he has reused the volume to record shares he and his wife were applying for and held in a number of different companies. Inside the front cover there are a number of company prospectus, general meeting reports and company director's reports. On the pages within the volume Mr Malcolm has pasted newspaper clippings regarding these companies and often there are handwritten notes on the clippings recording the amount of shares he and his wife held. There is also a letter from a land finance company to Mr and Mrs Malcolm regarding arrears in mortgage payments.VPRS 15043 / P1 was previously registered as Unit 10 of VPRS 449 / P Miscellaneous Registers.
