The EMNIST (Extended MNIST) dataset is a set of handwritten character and digit samples derived from the NIST Special Database 19. It has been preprocessed to match the structure and format of the original MNIST dataset, with all images resized to 28×28 pixels. EMNIST provides multiple dataset splits designed for different classification tasks, including digits, letters, and a combination of both. The dataset contains over 800,000 handwritten characters, split into subsets like ByClass, ByMerge, Balanced, Letters, Digits, and MNIST.
