Characterization of invasive pneumococcal isolates recovered from individuals in the United States through the Active Bacterial Core surveillance program

These isolates were sequenced in order to deduce key strain parameters that are thought to be important for establishment of disease and success in carriage, including capsular serotypes, resistance features, and pilus determinants. Since these features are usually clonally associated, it was also useful to obtain multilocus sequence types.
