Uganda (2013): MAP study evaluating coverage of Misoprostol in outlets in 60 districts of Uganda. Round 1

Since 2009, the Ministry of Health registered Misoprostol tablets to be used for postpartum hemorrhage, labor induction and later on for post abortion care. The introduction of Misoprostol was key in expanding interventions to reduce Uganda's high maternal mortality rate of 438/100,000 live births. Since then PACE has worked with MoH to distribute Misoprostol especially in private sector pharmacies. This study sought to determine the extent of coverage of the PACE detailing efforts and the quality of the distribution. It sought to determine the proportion of areas covered by a facility stocking Misoprostol in the recommended conditions. A nationally representative sample of supervision areas was selected and outlet visits conducted to assess product availability, storage conditions and pricing.
