The purpose of this study was to compare immune gene expression in the livers of a nurse shark (Ginglymostoma cirratum) that was healthy at the time of sacrifice and a nurse shark that died in captivity by succumbing to infection. Nurse sharks are often used as elasmobranch models due to the relative ease of capture and husbandry. Despite this, no reference genome exists yet for this animal.
