The purpose of this project was to investigate the role of dietary fiber in mediating colonization resistance towards the nosocomial pathogen Clostridioides difficile. Male c57BL6/J mice were given a defined diet at 5 weeks of age that was either fiber free or fiber rich. At 6 weeks mice were given the antibiotic Cefoperazone in the drinking water for 5 days. Mice were then given 10^5 spores of Clostridioides difficile via oral gavage10 days later or 21 days later. 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing (paired) on samples before diet and antibiotics, after diet and antibiotics, and after C. difficile challenge.
