Sea level observations in the Southern Ocean from a tide gauge network

The ROSAME French tide gauge network is complementing several national research programmes using in situ real time sea level observations, in the peri-Antarctic area of the Indian Ocean. These programmes are related to: tsunami warning system, satellite altimetry processing and validation, Antarctic Circumpolar Current monitoring and secular mean sea level trends. This tide gauges network is part of the GLOSS global network.

The tide gauge network is equipped with pressure sensor (water level pressure, seawater temperature, atmospheric pressure and conductivity) and transmits the data in real time through ARGOS system. The hourly data, after validation, are transmitted to the GLOSS Hawaii Centre.
