Based on a literature search on changes in grazing-excluded grasslands, a dataset for post-grazing exclusion ecosystem restoration was constructed. This dataset includes 136 studies, mainly focusing on multiple regions of China's "Returning Grazing Land to Grassland" Program, covering 29 sampling sites on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The collected information covers data sources, sampling locations, soil types, dominant plant species, grassland types, geographic positions, climatic data, grazing exclusion duration, soil organic carbon, total nitrogen, aboveground and belowground biomass, topsoil depth, soil bulk density, and more. Furthermore, critical indicators including soil carbon storage, soil nitrogen storage, and carbon stocks in aboveground and belowground biomass were derived from the raw data. This dataset facilitates in-depth understanding of the impacts of grazing exclusion on soil and vegetation biomass. The data were sourced from relevant literature spanning 2005 to 2021, and underwent rigorous data integration and cleaning to ensure its reliability and accuracy, resulting in excellent data quality. This dataset holds significant importance for evaluating the effects of grazing exclusion policies on grassland ecosystem restoration. In the future, these data can be used for the validation of ecological process models, the formulation of grassland management policies, and guidance for related ecological and environmental protection efforts, providing scientific support for sustainable grassland management.
