Fungal Spore Vectors: Birds and Insects

Our study provides the first comparative analysis of fungal spore communities vectored by both birds and insects in temperate Japanese forests. Using a combination of microscopy, next-generation sequencing, and advanced statistical analyses, we reveal that both birds and insects transport diverse and distinct assemblages of fungal spores, including numerous plant and animal pathogens as well as mycorrhizal taxa.
