Phages affect soil dissolved organic matter mineralization by shaping bacterial communities

Soil organic matter is the largest terrestrial pool of organic carbon, and dissolved organic matter (DOM) is its most dynamics and bioavailable component. Our results provide experimental evidence that phages participate in DOM mineralization through their effects on mortality and the structure and function of the surviving bacterial communities.
