Microbial diversity at plastic dump sites

Plastic is a lightweight and durable material which is used worldwide for packaging, construction, textiles, transportation, and consumer goods. This massive consumption leads to the production of greenhouse gases, contributing to climate change. Their incessant use is concerning as they are resistance to natural breakdown processes, leading to widespread accumulation in landfills, oceans, and ecosystems. The goal of the study was bioprospecting of the site for plastic degrading enzyme secreting microbes.
