VPRS 5118 Admission and Discharge Register

This series was created to provide a record of prisoners being admitted to a particular prison or section of a prison and, in some cases, details of their discharge from that prison.It should be noted that some of the volumes in this series may only relate to admissions, some may relate only to discharges and some may include details of both admission and discharge.It is not known why a particular prison uses a variety of different formats to record admission/discharge information, although it appears the smaller the prison the more likely it that the two activities are combined in one volume.Information included in each volume can vary greatly but may include the prisoner number, name of prisoner, date of trial, date of remand, sentence, offence committed, birthplace (either expressed as a country or a state), religion and age. Some volumes may also contain physical descriptions of prisoners.The discharge component contains information such as the prisoner number, name of prisoner, when discharged, how discharged (ie. parole) and where discharged.

本系列数据集旨在记录囚犯进入特定监狱或监区的情况，部分卷册还会收录囚犯从该监管场所出狱的详细信息。需说明的是，本系列中的部分卷册仅收录入狱登记信息，部分仅包含出狱相关内容，另有部分卷册会同时涵盖入狱与出狱的详细记录。目前尚无明确原因解释为何不同监狱会采用多种不同格式记录入狱/出狱信息，但现有迹象表明，监狱规模越小，越有可能将两项登记内容整合至同一卷册中。各卷册收录的信息差异较大，通常包含囚犯编号、姓名、审判日期、还押日期、判决结果、所犯罪行、出生地（可标注为国家或州/省）、宗教信仰与年龄；部分卷册还会补充囚犯的体貌特征描述。出狱登记部分则会收录囚犯编号、姓名、出狱日期、出狱方式（如假释）以及出狱去向等信息。
